CGS offers classes, workshops, webinars, and conferences. CGS staff also is available to speak at events organized by others. Staff expertise includes downtown revitalization, housing analysis, economic development, community supported enterprises, municipal and nonprofit management, healthcare issues, creative economy, creative economy, tourism, rural development, and other topics.

The Civic Leadership Academy offers more than 30 sessions each year in locations around the Chicago metro area and through webinars. Topics are grouped into four focus areas: Community/Economic Development; governmental and Organizational Governance & Performance; Human Resources; and Nonprofits.
