Aaron Merriman joined the Center for Governmental Studies in August 2020 as a graduate research assistant and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration and a Juris Doctor through the Northern Illinois University College of Law. His specialties are economic development and strategic planning, and he assists the Public Management and Training and Workforce Development teams with many projects. These include a rural hospital study, an apprenticeship creation project, and two strategic planning projects, one for improving housing in several counties in northwest Illinois and the other for aligning goals to help a small town grow and rebrand itself.
Prior to NIU, Aaron attended the University of Mount Union near Cleveland, Ohio, graduating in May 2019 with a B.A. in political science. He has experience working in the criminal justice and legal system, having clerked at a real estate law firm and for a municipal court judge; observed criminal and family court procedures; and worked in a rehabilitation program for recently released prison inmates.
