Promoting Regional Collaboration in Manufacturing

CGS’s recent economic development planning efforts in Northwest Illinois have helped foster new collaborations among the University, community colleges, Workforce Investment Boards, economic development organizations, and local manufacturers to improve regional competitiveness. In a mostly rural region with a strong manufacturing tradition, these collaborations will promote business growth and entrepreneurship through support services for product development and improvement, training and re-engaging underemployed or unemployed workers, and youth apprenticeship and internship opportunities. This collaborative approach can serve as a model for other regions in Illinois and the Midwest.
